Dynamite Island present the studio recording of the original soundtrack to our documentary cabaret Rendezvous in Bratislava.

Rendezvous in Bratislava was created by theatre-maker Miriam Sherwood and told the story of her Slovak granddad Laco Kalina, who was a dramaturg, satirist, collector of jokes and writer of cabarets. The show was developed at Battersea Arts Centre and began a tour of the UK, the USA and Central Europe in 2018.

The show's music, written by Thom Andrewes and Will Gardner, provides a link between the past and the present. Using forms and styles inspired by Laco’s life and work, and borrowing elements from a treasure trove of archival sources, these tracks shift from folk and classical, to jazz, comedy and synth pop, all in the service of telling one remarkable life story.

This album was recorded by the cast of the show in Jan–Feb 2019 at Cavendish Studio, London, and mixed and mastered by Ben Andrewes.
